Oh my gosh, if I had a dollar for every time I've heard that AD/HD is "just an excuse", well, I wouldn't have as many financial troubles. My favorite part is how everyone always seems to say "just" an excuse. What if they were to say "AD/HD is an excuse"? No, it's always, "Just" an excuse. What, then, is a legitimate excuse, I wonder? I mean, if someone is escused from something, how is it different from someone being "just" excused from something?
It's such a belittling thing to say, and yet if you really look at it, what exactly does it mean, "just an excuse"?
I think what it means is that it's "just" a putdown from people who know nothing about what they're talking about, or, "just" talking out of their arses!!!!
Anyhow, as has been written above, it is completely legitimate, and struggling with it does take a lot. It can cause problems trying to fit into a non-ADD world, but it is also something that can give us extra abilities.
As Monk would say, "It's a blessing, and a curse". But what it ISN'T is "just an excuse"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
