Thats horrid. Can you call animal control from outside your home and anonymously report the dog? Otherwise I guess its just a matter of time until the dog hurts someone else. I feel bad for the dog - but I feel horrible for you. Your husband sounds like a jerk. I'd say you'd have better luck going to the police and reporting your side of things. If your niece had medical attention, perhaps that might be an avenue to have the dog put down?? To check for rabies or other possible medical reasons for its mood? Otherwise... dropping it off at a vet would be another suggestion.

As for the husband? If he's acted like this for a long time without changing - maybe you should consider some time apart? Trial separation?
