(((Big Bear))) I've posted many times about the bad experiences we've had with dogs. I'm an animal lover myself, but the one thing I will NOT tolerate is an unsafe dog. Fortunately my husband is in complete agreement with me... although not all of his family agreed with me.

A few years after my daughter was severely mauled (and still bears the scares today although she's still a beautiful young woman it is a constant reminder of that horrible day. Her ear was shredded and tore partially from her head and still pains her in the winter to this day) our nephew was bitten in the face by my sister in law's dog. He was about 3 at the time and the dog nearly took his eye out. Oddly both of these things took place at my father-in-laws house.

I do not recall how I happened to arrive for the holidays before he did, but I came shortly after it happened while they were waiting for the ambulance. Hubby called to say he'd be there in a half an hour or so and I filled him in on what was going on. My husband is a very blunt man that does not have a filter on what comes out of his mouth. He stated in no uncertain terms that his sister and roommate were responsible for the dog's actions. The dog was old and "snappy" but they knowingly brought him into a situation where there were no fewer than 15 young children running around. Which caused a huge arguement between him and his father.

My Aunt's dog bit my youngest twin twice, once in the face very near his eye too. Her son was/is the animal control officer in that county. He was present for the second bite and was very upset to learn that the dog had been biting for some time. He had planned to put the dog down but his mother (my Aunt) and his daughters were freaking out, not because my child was bleeding but because the dog had belonged to my uncle that has recently passed away and they couldn't lose her too. Had my uncle been alive the dog would have been put down as soon as it bit someone the first time.

Some people just don't get it. I love my animals almost as much as I love my own children. In some ways I am closer to them than any other living thing on the planet. They are bundles of love. But as with children, owning pets comes with a huge responsibility.

But as Sky mentioned I am more concerned about you. What a horrible thing to go through then to have it compounded by your husband's attitude. I can only say that I am truly sorry you're going through this. Out of curiousity, how did the police respond to this?
