They have these GPS portable hiking thingies now ....much better than a compass. They used them to map the riding trails on the farms around Kentucky as they are putting together a statewide trail system here. It is really amazing how well they work. I was checking them out when I purchased the portable one for my truck.
I bought a portable GPS system for myself when I came here to KY to look for a farm....figured since I was driving the RE guy around, It would be better than trying to follow anyone's directions. I had to laugh at the automobile systems though....once you got out into the back country, you were lucky if you got within 1 mile of the correct location. Close enough however most of the time.... so we can add another item to the list of horseshoes & hand grenades.
Funny thing was....my husband was here with me when I was looking for my farm (before we separated). I had the GPS on & working & he still wouldn't turn in the correct direction. He just refused to listen to what he was told no matter how right it was...he always knew better. Ya think that might be one of the reasons he's in California & I'm here...lol......the problem wasn't only with GPS systems.
You said:
"No, I've always told her that men don't need compasses because we have a natural magnate in the tip of our nose that acts as our compass...."
.....I am curious , my husband had no sense of direction & he never had a broken nose & I never bopped him on the nose with a newspaper to break his magnet. I was tempted many times to hit him over the head with a baseball bat, but resisted....never tempted to use anything as soft as a newspaper......maybe he just never was normal. Should have used that as the sign for him being normal as I knew he had no sense of direction before we got married 33 years ago..lol.
I can see it now ....your whole family going together for daddy's day & getting LK his portable walking GPS.....much better than using crumbs or even string & the old fashioned compass....really out of date when the new fangled technical things are much more fun to play with.
Have fun on your Sunday hike.....LK, I am sure you will redeem yourself & BC, I am sure he wouldn't do that to you especially with it being Mommies day....you would never let him live that down let alone if it were to happen twice in a row in the same place.
Of course, a typical man thing would be for LK to buy you the GPS so you could loan it to him so you won't worry.
Have fun,
Debbie
