I think the point of the jokes was very much related to the topic. Ryan said, stop the bickering. So they did. I don't think it was hijaking. I think the jokes lightened the mood and stopped the bickering, if only breifly. I think they made Ryan's point quite well. And the fact that jokes started more bickering, wow.
