Why are you scared to call the police? This guy sounds dangerous. If you wait until the incident is over or a few days later, then there isn't much that the police can do, but if you call while it is going on they can do something about it.

You're a good person to care like you do, and to help with the kids. Having an adult they can go to and consider a friend is the best thing that can happen for kids in situations like this (other than for the abuse to stop). It's too bad that there are people like this and also that you have been drawn into it.
