In Oct. of last year my boyfriend started abusing me and when I tried to leave he decided that i had to stay so he would tie me up so I couldn't. He was very abusive physically. He would take a bat and wrap a towl around it and hit me. He also let his friends come over and do whatever they wanted to do, then proceed to call me a ***** and a slut. I was in this situation for three months. My family filed a missing persons report on me and the cops came to the house and got me out. I have been in and out of mental facilities since then. A couple of months ago I started the filing process for an order of protection. He is currently living in Michigan and the law there states that the sheriff's department can not serve him. The lawyer that is doing this pro bono said that it will cost me $50 to get him served. I am currently not working and my parents do not have the money. Should I just drop the whole thing, or try to find another way to serve him? I go to court on Friday.
