I use a muscle relaxant generic name methocarbonal and have for 30 years. It is NOT and "everyday" med, and the docs dole out the scrip in small qualities, but that's ok bec. I use even less than I am allowed.

It is great when my back "goes out" and I am walking hunched over with a cane.

The downside is NO DRIVING. I thought I was unaffected by it, bec. I usually don't fall asleep. Then I was on a 12-hour with my back killing me, and I decided to pop one since they "didn't affect me" and whoo boy, it was coffee and rest stops the rest of the way. I wasn't sure I was going to make for about three hours, until it started to wear off.

It also is prescribed under the brand name Robaxin but I have found absolutely no difference betw. the name brand and the generic, which costs me about $7 for 30 pills. Very inexpensive and effective for muscle spasms.
