I agree that something is wrong. There are features of Bipolar disorder all right. But since he barely came out of depression with no meds or counselling, it could be something else.

In any case, I think it is bad enough to see a psychiatrist and have a good diagnostic made.

-Mood stabilizer (Lithium, Depakote, ...)
-Sometimes, antidepressant
-Sometimes, atipycal antipsychotic against mania
-Counselling strongly suggested
