This may sound bizarre...but it works.....(something my mom taught me eons ago)...
Once you get your kitty moved to your new home, (and, yes..move him after you have moved everything else first), put butter on kitties front paws...(don't need much). He will immediately begin to lick his paws, picking up the scent of his/her new home...(makes it easier for kitty to accept the scent of the new home). This has worked for my kitties the times I have moved.

Simple, yet effective.
