Malady/Moriah: It felt this incredible rushing sensation build from the base of its spine up through its solar plexus and out somewhere between the chest and the throat while some of it continued upward and into its brain like searing flames. Moriah found itself gasping for air, having been immediately thrown into a mind blowing orgasm without either a visible sex partner or the use of its own hands. ... So the Serpent decides to show her Who bes Master, yeah?

Strip out the voice and what you have is an experience that bears strong resemblance to a kundalini awakening.

Kundalini is a form of energy reputed to be coiled at the base of the spine. It's sometimes referred to as "serpent power" or "serpent fire" and is also associated with a feminine goddess (some suggest Sophia). When kundalini is awakened, it travels through the chakras, beginning with the base chakra located in the groin area and travelling upwards until it arrives at the head. In Eastern religions it can be a highly desired event. It's also associated with temporary forms of psychosis and can play a role in a "spiritual emergency".

I recall a period of time previous to my own "experience" when I had a very pleasant hum in my base chakra region for several weeks. If an orgasm was a 10, that "hum" ranged between 3 - 5. Surprisingly, I didn't feel any need to act on it. It was just there.

Lee Sannella (a doctor) has written a book about Kundalini energy called The Kundalini Experience: Psychosis or Transcendence?. It's available through amazon but I recall stumbling across a (free) PDF version on the net at one point. You may still be able to find it.

"Uh-uh. No way. You tried the same thing on Eve in the Garden of Eden, and I'm not buying it."

There is a Gnostic version that tells a different tale...

Quote:
The serpent is regarded as an evil figure in traditional Christian stories, but to the Gnostics, the serpent is the hero! The Gnostic text teaches that as the demiurge tells Adam and Eve that they may help themselves to anything [in] the Garden, they are to stay away from the Tree of Knowledge. As Adam and Eve listen to the serpent, their eyes are opened, and the spell of ignorance is broken forever. Because they chose to listen to the serpent, Adam and Eve no longer worship the demiurge, but recognize that there is the True God, and he was not the creator of the evil, imperfect, material world.

The song, Mysterious Ways by U2 features two snakes that I felt were a direct reference to kundalini. The song itself strikes me as a summary of the Rosarium Philosophorum.
