Some people have had pretty in-depth and interesting conversations with me over the past few days about some stuff that's gone on here in the past few weeks. They also had some suggestions for change, and some suggestion that I could be more proactive in soliciting suggestions for change and giving people a chance to vent their frustrations.
So I'm going to try and do this in a thread, because that's all I have the capacity to do right now. There are some ground rules for this thread, though:
1. Please be respectful in what you write. Do not single out other single members, moderators, or administrators. (This isn't our opportunity to start a flame-fest!)
2. I'm mainly looking for positive suggestions for change. That could mean an update to the community guidelines. It could mean a suggested different manner for handling questionable posts. Try and couch your suggestion in what we can do to make the site better, not about failings we've had in the past.
3. Examples are beneficial to this exercise, but please keep them general or hypothetical if you can. For instance, "Joe Smith posted something I found offensive. I complained to the moderators, but his post remained and I never heard back from anyone. Could the person who notified a moderator be given a status update as to what happened after the complaint was filed?"
This thread will not go on indefinitely. After everybody has been heard (and I may ask followup questions of specific posters), it will be closed. Some suggestions may be implemented, others may not. The point is to learn from you what could make this a better community.
I'm listening,
DocJohn
