Medications begin to work as soon as you begin taking them. However, depending upon the dose you begin with, and how severely you needed them will determine when you begin to experience relief from taking the medication. For anti-depressants it can take up to 8 weeks to begin to sense some relief, and by then it may need to be increased already.
Talk to your doctor about trying a different medication if by 3 months at a decent dosage (ask doctor) you still aren't noticing any relief (and doctor concurs.) It may take trying several before you find one the works with your system. As you can see, it may take nearly 2 years or more if you only rely upon medication. Be sure to seek out psychotherapy with a psychologist during all this. Then, if you happen into a med that works, you'll be ahead of the curve. Keep trying, you're worth it!
