On my laptop, the computer I use all the time now, I picked up a really obnoxious piece of malware called "System Security." It took over everything and wouldn't let any other programs run, but I was able to restart in safe mode and reset the computer to before I had the malware, so now the computer works again. Except that now even though it shows that it is connected to internet (wireless), none of my programs are able to recognize a connection. It says that I'm not connected, or the host can't be found, etc. I have tried resetting my internet connection (although it works on this computer), and rebooting the laptop, and repairing the connection, and disabling and re-enabling the radio, and disconnecting and reconnecting, and trying to detect other connections. Nothing makes a difference. Any ideas?
And if you start getting popup messages from System Security informing you that your computer is under attack, or is infected with spyware, viruses, etc., exit everything immediately before it has a chance to take over. System Security is the virus. It won't let you close the popup windows - you have to shut down the computer. And you might be able to restart and run your virus software, but I had to go to safe mode to do anything. Even task manager was not able to open, although it tried really hard.
