Hi. I am also going in for a polysomnography on Monday, July 13. This will be my thirsd one. At my hospital. you sleep in a room, alone, and it is more like a hotel room than a hospital. It has a normal bed, very comfortable. They keep the temperature at a comfortable level and make sure it is dark. The staff have been very nice and even know my diagnosis of DID.
They do hook you up with electrodes, mostly on face and head, also legs. I did not have to be unclothed at any time in fron of any person. I actually slept better there than at home! I was told that was not unusual.
As others have said, I don't know why you should lose your drivers' license due to apnea. Are you currently falling asleep while driving? You can be treated for this condition, then that problem will disappear.
I hope it goes well for you. Of many test that we might have to endure, this one is relatively safe, but of course I do understand the fear of having to sleep away from home. I hope that you will have gentle people to attend you, people who will do their utmost to make you comfortable. Take care and let us know how you make out.
