I have Hashimoto's Disease and take synthroid every day. My endocrinologist monitors my blood levels closely and adjusts my medication levels accordingly.
Hypothyroidism can make you very nervous and depressed, but it sounds like you have a lot of anxiety and panic and might, (please notice I said might, not will), need additional meds.
I have Panic Disorder, among other things. I take my meds every day and do the best I can. I'm not a danger to myself or others. I'm a nice neighbor and try my best to be a good friend and family member. Having mental illness does not make me less of a person. It's just something I have and I take care of myself, take my meds and go to my Therapist and Psychiatrist.
Look at it this way:
My brother has diabetes. He takes his insulin.
I have mental health issues. I take my psych meds.
He's not embarassed because he has to take insulin and I'm not embarrassed because I have to take psych meds. We just have different illnesses.
Please understand that if your Dr says you do have a mental illness, that it's ok. It's not something that can't be helped with meds and therapy. Don't be afraid to try medications that can make your life a joy to live.
I wish you the very best. Please let us know what you find out and how you're doing.
Jan
