I think that you described mindfulness pretty well.

I'm in a DBT group. We just finished that section and are moving onto emotion regulation. The mindfulness went much too quickly for me. I am good at the first two: observe and describe. I was told that we would continue to bring mindfulness up throughout the other sections, and that most people go through the program at least twice before they are noticeably better.
Just my two cents on the DBT anyway.
