I'd go for the nice gentle dentist. One day is probably not going to make that much difference in the grand scheme of things. But if you haven't been in a while, be prepared for bad news. I avoided going to the dentist for 10 years while I was drinking, and when I went I had to have 14 fillings done, as well as it taking two sessions with the hygenist to get the tarter scraped off. Not trying to scare you. Just be prepared for bad news.
Hope it's an easily fixable problem.
