You don't pass on diseases, just possibly inherited traits that might make one more vulnerable to them than the average person. On the other hand, you will pass on some traits that make a child better able to cope with other stresses than the norm. It is the job of a parent to try to make allowances in raising a child to maximize strengths and minimize vulnerabilities. You can do a lot; it is not just "fate".

Just my take on the matter.
