I've cut way back from 2 yrs ago. Seriously, I am going to stop drinking even half a beer regularly in the near future. The problem is, even when I don't drink (which I don't when I'm severely depressed) the meds don't yet work! I've gone a whole week or days in a row without alcohol for the very reason that I'm depressed and drink holds no interest when I'm feeling that awful. I just sleep. I drink a little when I feel more normal and the meds are working. So, while I'm not a heavy drinker, I am well aware that alcohol can interfere with one's meds. And why would I want to drink anyway when I'm already depressed? It's a depressant. During mania is when most bipolar people drink. And it doesn't seem to harm their meds (since the meds obviously aren't working if they're manic), although it will harm their liver over time.
