i have workked as a groomer at a vet clinic for 10 1/2 years. and we have had strays who become our mascots. like small roomates. the biggest cat we have now is skipper-do. he was turned over by his owner because they were moving and couldn't keep him. he was up for adoption but people wanted kittens instead of adults. even though he is huge for a cat most people who come in never see him because he lays near the window all day, perfectly still. we have 5 mascot cats right now and they all have different ways of acting. one of the cats belongs to the owner of the business and that cat knows her mommy is in charge. Lil B (cause she has a beauty mark on her cheek) is the one who cuts on the water faucets, bounces on keyboards, and smacks at the clients. any way... many of the cats hit a cute stage where they feel left out and want more attention. it doesn't have to be a lot of attention.
