The smilie will only show up if there are words put with it. So the original poster may have put in the smilie and then gone back in there to add words. We did have a discussion about this some time ago and it was discovered that you have to have some words with any smilie that you use. Although I think DocJohn came up with a way to post a smilie with no text but I can't remember how he did it!
