I don't have Bipolar, I have other initials DID, PTSD, etc. and I've had years of insomnia due to depression. I just recently notice that after I made a decison to move into the spare bedroom so I could sleep alone and not listen to spouses noisy snoring, I've begun to sleep sooo well. In the past I did use trazadone and it did make me feel sleepy very quickly.

I've been given ambien and I use it VERY carefully. Usually a half-tab will work for getting to sleep, though I did wake some in the night. But, taking the whole tablet gave me some weird/odd dreams and I sometimes lost time the morning after and would not remember things. On top of that I often fall asleep repeatedly the next day which sets me up for sleep problems the next night. ARGH!!!! Insomnia stinks and benzos are tricky. I got myself addicted to xanax (alprazolam) and went off cold turkey because I was afraid to confess my drug misuse to my doc and that was a VERY, VERY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. Whoo! I hope I never do something dumb like that again. Addiction to anything is such a nightmare, ya know?
