It turns yellow for you? It turns red for me. I'm guessing that we might be using different appearance ("skins") settings or something.
I think you'll find that after you've pushed the Multi-quote button on one or more posts, when you click a Reply button those posts will show up as quotes in the composer window. All you have to do then is delete the parts you don't want to quote, arrange the quotes the way you want them, and type in your end of the conversation.
I think the multi-quoting feature only works within the same thread. If you wanted to quote from somewhere else, you'd need to copy-paste the text and put the QUOTE and /QUOTE tags around it yourself.

Since I wrote that, I've discovered that you
can click the multi-quote (
) button on posts even when they're in different threads. If the posts are from the same thread, the system will paste them into the reply box automatically. If they're from different threads, it'll ask. I haven't used the multi-quote feature for a while so I don't remember exactly when/how it asks.
