Some time ago I mentioned something called 'time-sharing' which is a very useful tool, but takes time to learn and you need to practice it. You kind of make a pact with the depression. You allow yourself to be depressed but only when you want it to!

Allow a time every day that suits you to just sit. Say, at 5pm you sit somewhere quiet and you allow your brain to have the low thoughts, feelings. Truly let the thoughts come and then at the end of the hour, you tell your depression that time is up. You must get up after the hour and use some sort of distraction (like cleaning, doing a puzzle, playing cards etc.)

You have to practice this in order for it to work for you. At first you might sit there for an hour and nothing happens, in that case, you arrange for the 'time-sharing' to occur the next day at the same time. If this works for you, you will find that you can get some control on the depression, not by fighting it but by giving it some time.

There are other mindfulness techniques I can go into which would help also, but will leave you with this for now!
