(warning: rant)
I had a mixed day. My first class was good and very interesting. My second class was also good, but I found out that what I thought was an assignment with a professor to do research is just for advising even though when they gave us the list they said that it was okay if we ended up switching to do research with someone else. (Hence implying we were signed up to do research with the first adviser.) So the one professor I wanted to work with in the program may not be taking any new students into his lab

, (even though there are at least three master's students with research interests in his area). If he isn't taking new students, why the **** am I spending so much money to be here? If I can't get any experience working in my area of interest I might as well be back at my job making money instead of losing it. You think they would have figured this out before hand. But once again apparently that isn't important to this school. I came so I could get experience in my interests and it seems like I may not be able to (one of the barriers to getting into a PhD program). It's not like I don't have enough general research experience, I can get people to pay me to do that. AGH!!!!
