We have three dogs ( one miniature dachshund and two rat terriers) and all three of them sleep with us unless my niece is here. Then one of the rat terriers has to sleep with her. Someone may try to steal the child. LOL. They are real protective of children. It is just we don't have any. Our dogs are our children. Yes, they are very spoiled.
