Bummer. Are you using another at home or at a library or such? (Makes it easier to troubleshoot...)
Laptops are notorious for overheating. Make sure you have it above the table a bit for better air flow. NEVER use it on the bed or soft surface: that blocks the fan which is underneath the keyboard.
Can you share if it was acting oddly before it took the dive? Or did it just shut off? Have you tried to restart it? Usually, if it begins to boot up you can hit a certain F key to start it in safe mode... that's what I would do if it boots at all. 
Do you have virus protection on it, updated daily or more often?
