My t says i overanalyze and overthink things, but she still encourages my writing. I journal and also write poetry. The poetry, in particular, is what i use to express my pain symbolically. I use the journal to sum up what's happening in therapy. I don't overdo with the writing, but i can be obsessive with my thinking and ruminating, sometimes spending good chunks of whole days thinking about the same thing -- usually a problem of some sort.
