 I can't take any flu shot because I am so allergic. They make me sick, once deathly (only took once) if I take them. It appears my body even has antibodies to such things, and the reaction of their trying to protect me is what causes me to be ill. (I'm allergic to some of my own chemicals/hormones etc... everyone is allergic to histamine, but I'm moreso, and also allergic to anti-histamine, for example.)
I'm sorry you fell ill.  But, exactly what you said, what IF you had the live virus!! Hopefully, now the flu shot will prevent that.
