I mean that it's meaningless in that it doesn't really affect, change or help anything. Counting to a certain number isn't going to make the Phillies win the World Series, keep a car from crashing, or protect a child from tripping, and we know it, but still have to do the rituals, even though they have nothing to do with anything.
