My first group session left me pessimistic. But the next six months were to prove me wrong. I received peer validation of my feelings and I was surprised to find that I could actually say things that were helpful to other people. Sometimes I got painfully honest feedback on how I came across to others and though this was difficult to hear it was incredibly valuable. Group therapy did not cure my depression, but it was a really important experience in my growth as an adult human being. Good luck!
