Hi WP. You have to look at what it is and why the alter did that. You have to realize that the alter was possibly taught that from the abuser. Do not be angry with the alter. I find there is always a very good reason. You have to understand their logic and reasoning. Their outlook will normally be quite different from yours. They normally will have developed just one emotion, so it is easier for them to try to deal with what happens. If you want to talk about this more let me know.
