Over time I learned to stop asking "WHY?" when the answer wasn't coming fairly easy. It means to me there really is no answer and you'll only go crazy searching for something that isn't there.

It's horrible that she did what she did but it was her, not you. You were a good friend and she threw it away. Maybe she wasn't thinking clearly, maybe she was just mean and you didn't know she had that in her. Maybe she made a huge mistake and she will feel bad for the rest of her life.

The important thing is you have to know what a friend you are and that what someone else does or when they treat you badly it is not a reflection on you, it's them.

Hang in there sweetie. Time heals and maybe you will find a way to understand and let go.
