Typically, ADHD will have depression or anxiety running with it. I was told at 10 I was not ADHD, but diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety disorder at age 16. And I have battled both of those over half my life now.

I have found with the combination of medication and coaching, not only has my ADHD improved, but my depression has gotten better and my anxiety has lessened. I am lucky enough that I have worked with my pdoc for over 9 years and can afford a coach.

Most often, ADHD is "tested" or evaluated with observational evaluations completed by you and one (or more) people who are close to you and know you well. For me it was evaluations completed by me and my husband of 12 years. My daughters' evaluations were done by me or D (husband and their father), their teachers and for my oldest, she completed one. While there are efforts to find a biological marker for ADHD so it can be identified by a blood test, science has not quite gotten there yet.

Hang in there. As you learn more, you will figure out how to work with the ADHD rather than against it.
