Meditation can help. Now, I realize the idea can be scary. When I first tried it, I was like "Clearing my mind is impossible!!!" It can really feel this way when your thoughts are racing like you said.
You may be able to find "guided meditations" or relaxation exercises online for free. They are audio files of someone, with or without soft music, instructing you through the meditation. This is the type that works best for me. Many times the "instructions" are to think of one thing or to allow thoughts to flow through your mind without "attaching" to them.
I understand this can be hard to do. One of the reasons I like the guided meditations is that it gives me a calm and soothing voice to concentrate on, which is giving me instructions on what to concentrate on, taking my mind off of whatever racing thoughts I am having.
I hope that helps!
