I know where you're coming from. I have bipolar I and social phobia. Everyone I graduated high school with is preparing to graduate college this year, I barely have sophomore standing. Usually when I open a book, I stare blankly at it for 15-30 minutes, then throw it on the floor. I've missed three exams the past week (two due to psychotic symptoms, the third simply because of social anxiety).
Any counselor that you've seen a long time should have started cognitive-behavioral therapy with you immediately (and CBT can be VERY helpful, especially with anxiety disorders). Either try to find a better psychotherapist and/or discuss other drug possibilities with your psychiatrist. A new drug will never be an immediate fix though. Usually they take a while (2-6 weeks is a rough estimate) to kick in and for you to get over the side effects.
Also remember your life isn't to satisfy your family, it's to satisfy yourself.
Good luck!
