The morning-after pill is usually a high-hormone birth control pill that prevents the egg from fulling implanting in the uterine lining, so it's shed just like during normal menstruation... but it has to basically be taken 'the morning after'.

I'm a big advocate of condoms, myself - not everyone can abstain from sex, but everyone can & should protect them selves & their partners from unwanted pregnancies & STD's.
