I have often had that happen, where I want to escape the emotions and then when I'm ready to go back to them, I've lost it.
What I do now is jot down short notes as soon as I leave, in the car. I use texting shorthand so I can dump out the most salient points/moments as quickly as possible. Then I put it away for a few days and go on with my regular life. When I'm ready to go back to the session to reflect, I have the notes to jog my memory.
