I remember getting a lot of ignorant responses when depression was mentioned. Some people think of depression as being a person in bed with the covers over your head. I learned I was a functioning depressive. Of couse I had my times when it got so bad the functioning fell apart. I remember my human resource person asking if I was having a bad day and being willing to let me go home if I needed to. It was so helpful for her to know I had my ups and downs. One time when I had to be in the Psych Ward for two weeks she was so cool when I wanted to come back. She was about the only person who knew what was going on.

I live with constant low level depression and I try to be aware of my thoughts. I try to jump off the pity pot when I fall into self-pity. I try to live one day at a time. Dwelling on the past or playing the "what if" game concerning my future can alter my mood.

But even trying to do those things I can have low days. Thankfully I can do what I need to do eventually and never find myself in that dark cold place I used to live in years ago.

Not sure any of that helps you but it was a great question and got me thinking. Being honest is good but understanding who the "safe" people are to be honest with is equally important.

Just my thoughts,
Judy
