For years, I have fought fatigue and excessive sleepiness. I have had chronic major depression since I was 20. It is being managed well, but the hypersomnia persists. I tried everything. I cannot maintain a normal circadian rhythm. I even have an SAD light that has made any difference. I cut out on anything that would interfere with sleeping. Two years ago, I was sleeping almost 24/7. My pdoc put me on Provigil which worked, but my insurance won't cover that. We tried Ritalin and another stimulant, which didn't work. Then, he put me on Amantadine. It helps, even though it's not enough.

There's this love-hate relationship with sleep. I fight sleep because I have so much trouble with waking up. I just don't wake up, even with 2 alarms. I can easily sleep for 16 hours. If I exercise, I require more sleep. I don't have any sleep disorders except for hypersomnia.

Has anything helped you with this issue? I take meds, so it's difficult to determine whether if it's the meds, depression, or something else. My pdoc knows that I have this issue. I've taken energy supplements and all, but I don't need those. I've even tried vitamins and herbal stuff. What I need is something that gets me bushytailed when it's time to wake up. Something that "kicks" me out of bed. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you, everyone!
Thanks for this!
