Hi, Billi here.
I was talking to my husband the other night and we both came to know for ourselves that we believe that the label "borderline personality disorder" just depresses me.
It doesn't help me.
Yes, I think it's good for such a group of symptoms to be realized and labeled. Yes.
But I looked up "borderline" in my Websters and it suggested that "borderline" might mean "not quite average" or "close to indecent".
So, for me, it felt like bpd was a label implying that I have an "indecent" "not quite average" personality.
I even wonder if the first doctor who made this label was feeling condescending toward the first patient with this disorder.
For me, a label like "condition" or "syndrome" or "mind-set", suggesting an illness, rather than a "personality" problem might work better for me.
and maybe another word instead of "borderline".
Just my thoughts.
I don't like feeling "indecent" or "below average".
What do you think?
Billi
