First, if his meds don't seem to be making any difference, you need to talk to the psychiatrist about this. Then, you may have to lay down some rules for living in your house - those non-negotiables we keep mentioning. Subtle hints may not be enough. That may just feel like nagging. You may have to lay down the law. Is he in therapy? If so, talk this over with the therapist. This would be something that he could help you with.
Being unable to cope with basic daily living skills is a reason some people need hospitalization. It still may need to be a consideration, particularly if he is very irrational and combative about things.
