Being unable to cope with basic daily living skills is a reason some people need hospitalization. It still may need to be a consideration, particularly if he is very irrational and combative about things.
We are in constant contact with both his psychologist and psychiatrist. Meds are being adjusted on a bi-weekly basis, but I am scared because he is cycling. He has gone from being irritated--his form of hypomania--to being quite depressed, all in one day. He is not suicidal, so we have put off hospitalization. However, he has an intake interview on Tuesday for a partial hospitalization program. I guess that hygiene is not even all that important at this point. He is just not functioning.
