As I see it, all you can ever process is whatever's there for you in the present. If you've been triggered then you experience for a while
in the present whatever that brings up for you. If memories from the past do come up for you in the present, they're fair game for processing. If not, you could (if you're willing) do various things to invite them but I see no point in chasing after them before they've made themselves known.
