This is a facinating thread and I have to agree with those who commented that it got W-A-Y off track a few times.
some general comments brought on as I read the posts...
Starting with the original post. The media makes fun of BOTH sexes and uses sexual sterotypes to order to sell products. IMHO, it's offensive regardless the sex being ridiculed or stereotyped.
As a female who lived through the feminist movement and has faced sexual discrimination in the past, men may not see it, but men still have privilge in the States. I can't speak for other countries because I don't live there. Things are still not equal here, way better than the past, but not equal.
In my younger days I used to make realy sexist remarks about men. Then one day I asked myself if I would make such comments about someone based on race. The idea horrified me. I never made a sexist comment about men again.
