(((hugs)))) The darkness can overpower us, it feels. Also, it tends to suck us down into it farther, rather like quick sand, imo. Keep going through the motions, regardless of how you feel. I agree that "changing your mind" is not a viable solution. We can't "just snap out of it" as we are dealing with something also physically based.

No, no one wants to feel depressed. (And those who suggest "easy fixes" have never really been DEPRESSED IMO.) I surmise we do not really want to end life. We want things to change. Out of desperation to change things, when we feel we are unable to change anything else, we consider ending life, itself. It isn't life we really want to end. It is the terrible pain (psychological and/or physical) that we want to end.

Try making a change in something. ANYTHING. Start small... the best you can do. Maybe some very small change...something you have wanted to be different... and make it different. (Move a picture on the wall, get your hair cut... drink from a new glass you buy... ) no, the one thing won't stop the depression, but it can begin you on a track for making changes.. the more you make the more you can make... and maybe even find something that really does matter when you change it.

Death is always an option. It's always there "for" us. Don't pull the plug while there are still other things to try... and until everyone around agrees there's nothing left, there's probably something.... but I don't know what it is.
