Hi Martina,

What kind of therapy does your current T practice? And can you discuss your DBT findings with her/him?

When I was dx with BPD 16 years ago, DBT was not heard of. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was the norm. I am not saying that CBT was a good type of therapy with BPD, but it sufficed. I definately learnt new behavioural skills and my T at the time was a very precious person. I saw her for 7 years and she saved my life surely.

Can you combine your current therapy with your DBT findings? My current T who is also very precious ( I have been fortuitous with my T's), combines a mixture of therapy types. She focuses a lot on mindfulness and radical acceptance, which, from my knowledge, are popular DBT concepts.

So yes, I do believe you can learn concepts on your own, but it would be good to keep an open dialogue on your findings, to keep perspective and direction.

Good luck.......I believe anything is possible if you feel it helps....

In stillness,

Michah
