little caroline, sometimes all you can do for someone who is sad is just be there. saying you understand and staying with them to let them know it's okay to be sad. i hope that helps. it's hard to have someone you care about be sad when there's nothing you can really do. but i bet you are already doing more than you realize just because you care.
