I've given up using "fine." In its place I usually say, "tolerable." Or, for more comic effect, in reply to "How are you?" I say nothing, place fingers on my wrist as if I'm taking my pulse and stare off into space with a puzzled look on my face.

My dog  mastered the "fetch" command. He would communicate he wanted something, and I would fetch it.
